Hired Swords Selection

Any Hired Swords from 1a to 1c on Broheim may be used.  Please see our Hired Sword Matrix for clarity on which Hired Sword can be hired by which Warband.  This overwrites the existing restrictions as shown on rosters.

Hired Sword Allegiance

Once after every game, you can ask a Hired Sword to join your warband as a Hero, foregoing the life of a Hired Sword.  But this is not without risk!  After all post-injury rolls have been made and you have paid their fee, roll 2d6 and refer to the chart below. Note, you cannot roll on this table if the Hired Sword was taken out of action.

2-3         What did you say?

You have offended the Hired Sword who now charges your Warband Leader.  Play out the battle as normal.  If your Leader loses, roll on the Serious Injuries Chart.  If he wins, gain +2 Experience and whatever fee you paid for the previous battle.   Remove the Hired Sword from your Roster.

4             We’re done here!

Unamused by your poor offer, the Hired Sword packs up his gear and leaves the Warband.  Remove the Hired Sword from your Roster.

5             I think I need a raise.

Unfortunately, your words of inspiration, have only served to inspire the Hired Sword to raise their prices by 1d6.  This is a permanent change and is charged as normal.

6-9         I prefer to work alone.

The Hired Sword doesn’t accept your offer and continues to work for you as normal.

10           Listen, I like you, but…

The Hired Sword doesn’t accept your offer but does offer you a freebie in the next battle.

11           It will cost you.

The Hired Sword has listened to your words of wisdom, and will offer you his allegiance, at a cost.  Pay 2 x the Hire cost of the Hired Sword to change the outcome to Swears Allegiance.

12           Swears Allegiance!

Success!  Inspired by your speech and your leadership, the Hired Sword joins your Warband permanently as a Hero.  If no Hero slot is available, you may remove a Hero and replace him.  The Hired Sword no longer charges his upkeep and retains his XP + Starting Warband Rating.
